In September 1998, as the Kosovo war rages, British journalist Julius Strauss meets five-year-old Besnik Deliu, the survivor of a massacre that killed 23 of his family members. Julius forms a bond with the boy, visiting him often and bringing food, toys, and support. Over 20 years later, now living in the Canadian wilderness, Julius receives a message from Besnik asking to meet. He returns to Kosovo, and together they visit the massacre site where they finally learn the full truth about what happened that terrible day.
Return to Kosovo was co-directed by Emma Strauss, a Hungarian filmmaker and journalist, Julius Strauss, a former war correspondent, Donald Harding, a London-based producer, and Ben Harding, who is a UK-based director and often works for the BBC.
