Agona Shporta presents her debut album, Hape Portën (2024), with her evocative voice and contemporary takes on Albanian folk music. She is joined by an exceptional band of musicians from Kosovo: guitarist Tringa Sadiku, pianist Ilir Bajri, bassist Enver Muhamedi, and drummer Enes Beu, each contributing to a shared vision.
The album title, Hape Portën, inspired by the opening track, “Hape Portën Moj Evropë” (Open Your Gate, O Europe), is a 1990 South Albanian iso-polyphony song responding to mass migrations after the fall of communism. The band reinterprets the song in the context of Kosovo’s 2024 visa liberalization, shifting its focus from past struggles to a more hopeful future.
